Trump Signs G7 Escalation While Telling Putin Peace — Greece Caught at War With Russia
Trump signed the G7 Evian communiqué backing strategic pressure on Russia while telling Putin he wants peace. Peskov: "It is a real war now." Greek National Security Advisor recorded admitting drone war coordination against Russia and suggesting assassination of a Russian billionaire.

Trump signed the G7 Evian statement committing to “increase pressure on the Russian war economy” including sanctions on oil and gas — then told Putin on their July 4 phone call that he wants peace. The contradiction is documented, not speculative.
Peskov on July 5: “It’s a real war now. It all started as a special military operation. It continues like a war because Berlin, Paris, The Hague, Oslo, and unfortunately Washington are behind Kiev.” This is the first time a senior Russian official has publicly abandoned the Special Military Operation framing.
The G7 statement, signed by Trump on June 17: “We commit to increase the pressure on the Russian war economy. In this context, we will strengthen our sanctions, including those on the oil and gas sectors. We consider this the right moment to proceed with additional measures.”
Trump to reporters on July 5, asked why Putin isn’t feeling pressure: “Well, I think he does feel pressure. He wants to end it and Ukraine wants to end it, and we’re in talks.”
Helmer’s core argument: Trump’s words to Putin contradict Trump’s signed obligations. The question is whether Putin is being played or is self-deceiving. The NATO summit at Ankara is the next scheduled escalation point.

Greek National Security Advisor Athanasios Dokos was recorded by Russian pranksters Vovan and Lexus — who posed as Ukraine’s Defense Minister Umerov using AI-generated voice and image. In the 12-minute conversation, broadcast in Russia on July 1-2, Dokos revealed:
- Greece is co-producing Ukrainian naval drones at the Skaramangas shipyard through South African corporation Paramount Group
- Ukraine operates onshore drone command-and-control systems on Greek territory
- The Greek intelligence chief (EYP) was in Kiev coordinating the secret deployment terms with his SBU counterpart
- Dokos’s only concern about drone strikes on Russian vessels near Greek islands is avoiding “incidents” and “accidents” that might hurt tourism revenue or shipping profits
- When asked about targeting, Dokos suggested killing “a Russian billionaire” — adding “they don’t come to Greece anymore. They go to Turkey or other places”
- “It’s as simple as that” — Dokos on whether damaging a Russian ship is worth losing Greece’s support
The operation was exposed in May when a Ukrainian USV carrying 300kg of explosives washed up on the Greek island of Lefkada, engine running, navigation systems and AI-assisted communication active. The Greek government covered it up, claiming it was harmless, while the KKE (Greek Communist Party) remains the only parliamentary force demanding Greece exit the war.
South Africa’s Paramount Group — nominally from a BRICS country — announced its drone deal with Ukraine on June 17. Russian media has not yet reported on a corporation from a BRICS ally supplying weapons systems for the war against Russia.
The Attrition War — Why Russia Hasn’t “Won”

A detailed operational history arguing that Russia is deliberately fighting a limited operation, never a conquest. Forces in Ukraine grew from 190,000 (Feb 2022) to 700,000 (2026) — a four-fold increase, but still only 47% of Russia’s 1.5 million-strong army. The country is not on a war footing.
Russia controls 95-98% of Luhansk and 55-60% of Donetsk. Sloviansk and Kramatorsk — the last major Donetsk cities — are expected to fall between September 2026 and early 2027.
Per Johnson: Russia’s oil revenue has increased 40% since the US-Israeli attack on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz closure. Ukraine has no strategic reserve of fresh equipped formations. Russia has ample reserves of men and ammunition.
The Missing Connection
The US and Israel attacked Iran to degrade a Russian ally. The result: Russia’s energy revenue increased by 40%. The war against Russia is being funded, in part, by the energy price spike the attack on Iran produced.
Cross-Cutting Assessment
Three threads converge:
-
Trump’s contradiction is structural, not personal. The administration operates two tracks simultaneously — diplomatic language for domestic and Putin consumption, institutional escalation through alliance frameworks (G7, NATO). Both are active. Neither has collapsed.
-
The war expands geographically through deniable proxies. Greece’s covert drone operations, Norway’s announced USV production, the Constanta explosion — NATO members are entering the war through drone infrastructure and territorial hosting, avoiding direct troop commitments.
-
Peskov’s “real war” language is a regime-changer in Russian domestic framing. It legitimizes escalation internally without triggering full mobilization. Watch whether the language shift precedes force structure changes.
